ProlapLase – Prolapse Treatment

ProlapLase – Laser Treatment of Pelvic Organ Prolapse

ProlapLase®, a recent solution tailored for pelvic organ prolapse (POP), a widespread issue affecting a large number of women in Australia.

Before ProlapLase® was available, options were limited to supporting pessaries and surgical interventions, both came with challenges and high rates of adverse effects.

ProlapLase® offers an effective solution for women

ProlapLase® offers a non-invasive Er:YAG laser alternative for POP treatment.

The Er:YAG laser is a type of laser that emits pulses of light specifically absorbed by water molecules in the skin, and is used to address wrinkles, scars, and other skin imperfections by removing layers of damaged skin cells.

Clinical studies underscore its efficiency, ease of application, and safety.

The procedure is incisionless and virtually painless, with no cutting, bleeding or sutures.

The benefits of ProlapLase®

ProlapLase® offers unique advantages for patients, minimising impact and burden on the body compared to invasive surgical procedures. No special pre-op preparation or post-op precautions are necessary, allowing patients to resume normal activities immediately.

Additionally, ProlapLase® is incisionless and virtually painless, avoiding cutting, bleeding, or sutures.

How ProlapLase® works

The treatment relies on precisely controlled laser-induced photothermal effects, which stimulate collagen remodelling and synthesis of new collagen fibres in mucosa tissue, soft tissue that lines the reproductive system’s canals.

The outcome is shrinkage and tightening of the vaginal canal without tissue removal.

The ProlapLase® protocol involves three steps:

  1. Circular (360°) irradiation of the entire vaginal canal.
  2. Angular irradiation of the prolapsed side of the vaginal wall.
  3. Irradiation of the vestibule region and prolapsed vaginal wall.

How many treatments are required?

Patients typically require multiple treatment sessions (up to four).

Note that the treatment is considered safe and effective, and your doctor will take you through the process while answering any questions you may have during your initial consultation.
